How to review staff performance.
Draw up and follow through on a clear action plan for each employee as part of the review process. Action plans are just as valid for high performers as for under-performers. For under-performers, you will need to set out a plan to bring that individual back on track. One commonly used approach is the performance improvement plan (PIP), which is a formal agreement outlining the employee’s goals and what he or she can do to meet them more effectively. For high performers, action plans coming out of the review process can focus on stretch targets and opportunities to advance.
