Take part in formal leadership training to help improve your own performance and, where relevant, that of your management team. The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) reports that 90 per cent of its members who have completed a management and leadership qualification found the experience improved their performance at work. Research from the CMI suggests that it pays to do so. Effective management development is linked to a 23 per cent increase in organisational performance. The CMI also found that managers rate business school and professional body qualifications as the more effective forms of management and leadership development, over internal knowledge-sharing events, external conferences, workshops and networks or short courses.
