What is Be the Business?

Some may think we're a confusing organisation to understand, but at our core we have one simple goal: to help business leaders from around Britain improve their companies to become more productive. We do this through a variety of means, from our well-established Mentoring programme to the helpful, advice-based content found on our website. Fundamentally we're a mission-driven, entrepreneurial team, and we thrive on leading and driving projects that will positively impact UK businesses and the economy. Have a look at the video below to see how it all comes together in less than two minutes.

What's the opportunity?

We're on the hunt for an account executive that will maximise the impact of Be the Business’s work by multiplying our reach and activities through our engaged partnerships, and by contributing to the income generation targets for the partnerships team through prospecting and lead generation.

If successful, you'll be responsible for managing a portfolio of organisations and ensuring the smooth operations of the team, including administration and events management.

What might a typical day look like?

  • Monday, 9am – Time to start the day and week by checking through your emails and catching up on any new information concerning our team and the wider organisation
  • 9:15am – now we check in with partners and discuss PMO updates relating to developments within our Construction Taskforce, how have things progressed, and what we have next
  • 11am – It's time for our weekly Start The Week call with everyone in the business. This week we've got a Spotlight session from Hunter. When a new month rolls in, we have a longer Start the Month session where we look at how key priorities have progressed for each team, and what’s in store for the month ahead
  • 11:30am – Check in with the wider team to see what each other's priorities are for the coming week and the areas others need support in – we have our team meetings on Tuesdays (our team day in the office), so it’s a good idea to check through our Team Priorities list and check for any outstanding actions
  • 12pm – keeping on top of admin is essential for the smooth delivery and account management of our strategic partnerships, now is a good time to make sure all Salesforce records are up to date
  • 1pm – Grab some lunch from nearby Whitecross Street market...will it be a burrito or salad box today?
  • 2pm – Time for some prospecting! As we adopt a more commercialised model, outreach to prospective partners is key to helping us achieve our strategic goals. We’re proud of what we do at Be the Business, let’s get people involved!
  • 3pm – Supporting the team achieve our goals. A big part of your time is supporting with the account management and delivery of some of our strategic partnerships, its time to meet some of our partners and say hello!
  • 5pm – A few of the team are heading to the Sutton Arms for a well-deserved drink, what better way to finish off a Monday

See what our values look like

We thought long and hard about our vision and the values that we think are important to make it happen. You'll find them framed front and centre in the office so everyone can refer back to our five values.

Let's answer some questions you might have

We were founded in 2017.

We were established by Sir Charlie Mayfield, former chairman of the John Lewis Partnership and our current chairman.

Labour productivity is the measure of how much output is produced per unit of labour input, for instance, per worker. Higher productivity means that a business produces more output for each worker it employs.

To date we've supported upwards of 11,000 British business leaders and helped drive around £400m of GVA uplift, the measure of the value of goods and services produced in an area.
