How good it your business really?: Raising our ambitions for business performance

This report, written by the Productivity Leadership Group, led to the foundation of Be the Business in 2017.

Sir Charlie Mayfield

In April 2015, Sir Charlie Mayfield and Sir Richard Lambert hosted a breakfast to bring together some of Britain’s most senior business leaders to discuss what businesses could do about the productivity problem. The Productivity Leadership Group started work in earnest in September 2015, after the Government signalled its support for our work in the Productivity Plan.

How good is your business really?: Raising our ambitions for business performance is an evidence-based report written by the Productivity Leadership Group in 2016. The findings and recommendations from this report led to the foundation of Be the Business in 2017.

The report outlines in full the scale of the UK's productivity problem, and points to two key drivers of productivity - management and leadership skills and greater technology adoption - as essential for small business leaders to improve their productivity standing. These two drivers are central to Be the Business' mission today.
