How to measure performance.
Hold regular informal meetings, outside of the formal review process, to keep your teams on target. Don’t wait for the annual appraisal. Instead, monitor staff performance throughout the year and identify concerns or possible issues which can then be picked up and addressed before it’s too late. There are tools to help you observe how your staff are doing, such as trackers to show real-time progress on tasks against deliverables and project deadlines. However, don’t forget to also monitor professional and skills development alongside other goals too – factors which are more important to employees themselves.
